PEAK jun-aug: these summer months constitute the high season as they coincide with the long summer break for schools and universities in mainland USA. mid dec-mid jan: the second high season occurs during this time (across Christmas and New Year). apr-oct: the Australian and New Zealand school holiday periods over Easter/April and October. SHOULDER mar-may and sep-nov: these periods can offer greater value in terms of price and also availability of accommodation. WHAT INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS OPERATE FROM AUSTRALIA? Direct services to Hawai‘i from Australia depart from Sydney (Hawaiian Airlines, Jetstar and Qantas), Brisbane (Hawaiian Airlines) and Melbourne (Jetstar). All direct services ex-Australia arrive into Honolulu International Airport on the island of O’ahu. Travellers from other Australian states are required to arrange domestic flights to connect in either Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. Each international carrier has a domestic airline partnership which will allow luggage to be checked through from the domestic point of embarkation to Honolulu. Please ask your international carrier for more information. WHAT ABOUT INTER- ISLAND FLIGHTS? It’s easy to travel between the Hawaiian Islands, with flights departing regularly. Flights are short in duration (25-50 minutes) and plentiful. Hawaiian Airlines offers more than 160 inter-island flights per week using jet aircraft. Other inter-island carriers include Island Air, go! Airlines, Mokulele Airlines and Pacific Wings – all flying turbo-propeller aircraft. The five major airports are: Honolulu (HNL) on the island of O’ahu; Hilo (ITO) and Kona (KOA) on Hawai’i Island Kahului (OGG) on the island of Maui Līhu’e (LIH) on the island of Kaua’i.
