YOUR ROMANTIC CELEBRATION Hawai‘i makes it simple when it comes to the legal requirements for marriage: • both parties must be at least 18 years old • both parties must appear together before a licence agent in Hawai‘i to complete an application (licensing offices are located across the Hawaiian Islands) • the licence charge is US$60 (plus US$5 administration fee) and it is valid for 30 days • there is no waiting period • there are no residency or citizenship requirements. Hawaiian weddings are valid and recognised in Australia for hetrosexual couples. However, same-sex marriages are not currently recognised in Australia. Hawaiian weddings are recognised as lawful for all couples from New Zealand.
